LIBRARY WINES

RUSSIAN RIVER VINEYARDS LIBRARY COLLECTION

At RRV, we only release our wines when they are ready to drink. But a distinct set of our wines will improve with age, and a select few will undergo significant changes that can deliver a truly unforgettable wine-drinking experience. Each year, we will select the wines which have the greatest aging potential and cellar a limited portion of those vintages until they enter their peak.  At that time, we will make them available for sale.

When you purchase from our library collection, you can be assured that you are enjoying our wines at the pinnacle of their quality.  Enjoy!

 Legacy Estate Vineyard Special Offer

The Legacy Estate-grown wines in our Library Collection are the only remaining vintages of the wine we produced from the vines that were planted on the Russian River Vineyards estate before we took ownership.

These wines are aging beautifully, and we couldn’t be happier with the way they are drinking now.  But they have up to 10 years more aging potential.  Our Library Vertical bundles are an opportunity for you to acquire all three vintages at a fantastic value.

2016 Pinot Noir

Austin Estate Vineyard

Produced from grapes organically grown on the Austin Estate Vineyard, first planted in 2005. This wine is made with 100% Dijon clones, which produces an exceptionally rich, dark fruit. Aging an additional year in the bottle before release produces an exquisitely complex wine with rich lush flavor from the concentrated fruit and herbal, spicy overtones. It is smooth and velvety-soft on the palate. A very refined and yet very approachable, this wine will keep you reaching for another sip.  Age up to another 10 years.

Landy

Vineyards

The Landy Vineyard at Sweet Water Springs in the Russian River Valley enjoys a variety of growing elevations from 300 to nearly 1000 feet, and a diverse variety of soils. Rocky hillsides high above the fog layer receive long sun exposure. This allows growing exquisite warmer climate Cabernet Sauvignon fruit amidst a cooler growing area normally reserved for Pinot Noir & Chardonnay.

2015 Merlot

Estate

Vineyard

A GOLD MEDAL winner in the TexSom Wine Competition, the 2015 vintage is the "middle child" of the remaining three vintages of the Legacy Estate Merlot vineyard.  It features somewhat stronger fruit & acid characteristics than the 2014 but less so than the 2016. But like all of these wines, it remains wonderfully balanced and presents nuanced, complex flavors that can be enjoyed now or well into the future as it softens and mellows with age.

2015 Pinot Noir

Estate

Vineyard

As the second oldest of the Pinot Noirs from the Legacy Estate Vineyard, this wine displays slightly stronger fruit characteristics than the 2014, and a bit more acidity. The 2015 vintage saw a crop that came in at a low volume but was generally of very high quality with intense, concentrated fruit flavors.  Acids and tannins have softened, naturally, but the strong fruit flavors are still making their presence known. This wine opens up beautifully, revealing complex layers/aromas, so be sure to let it sit a while before drinking.

2012 Merlot

Estate

Vineyard

With only a few precious bottles remaining, this wine comes from our Legacy Estate Vineyard, planted originally in 1963, and is an outstanding example of a Merlot Wine that is built to age. Like all of the wines from this vineyard, which was removed in 2017, it embodies the brilliant fruit/acid balance which is a hallmark of the winemaking style employed by our former Winemaker, Anthony Austin, who serves RRV as a consulting winemaker to this day. All of the Merlot grapes from this vineyard had to be carefully farmed because the climate is to cool for Merlot, by conventional standards. It was a challenge to ripen the grapes under these conditions, but the result pays off with a Merlot that displays unusually good balance & complexity, and which ages exceptionally well.

2016 Pinot Noir

Estate

Vineyard

As the youngest of the Pinot Noirs from the Legacy Estate Vineyard, this wine carries acid & fruit characteristics that are a step stronger than the 2015, as one would expect. The beautiful balance remains, and the previous vintages provide a clue about how wonderfully this wine will age. This well-aged but still-lively wine is a perfect demonstration of the age-worthiness of these Legacy Estate Vineyard wines.

2014 Merlot

Estate

Vineyard

As the oldest of the remaining three vintages of this wine, the 2014 is an excellent example of as wine that embodies the structure and balance required for a wine to age well. As the oldest of the three remaining vintages, this wine's fruit & acid have softened the most, and it has taken on a smooth, velvety texture with subtle, complex flavors & aromas.

2014 Pinot Noir

Estate

Vineyard

Bearing the hallmark balance of former RRV Winemaker Anthony Austin's winemaking technique, this wine embodied a fine harmony of fruit, acid, and tannins when it was produced. This all-important balance allows the wine to age gracefully. As the oldest of the Pinot Noirs from the Legacy Estate Vineyard, this wine displays the dramatic softening of fruit flavors into more complex, savory aromas. 2014 was generally a great year for Pinots, and this is no exception.  Acids and tannins have softened as well to make way for a smooth and velvety texture delivering complex layers of flavor.
